Lime trees are strong survivors, so
you may cut their stems but know
that new branches will spread out
which the trees as answers shout.
That is why by summer time
sprouts will be covering the lime
so that its stem then is more green
than brown and not so clean.
The gardener must now decide
if he wants the stem to hide
behind surrounding leaves or show
the majestic trunk below.
Some lime trees are cut brutally,
although this might just have to be,
to chop it at a certain height.
The tree survives in springtime’s light!
