Eruption

First peacefully the ground just rumbles,
then sulphuric gas leaks out,
and suddenly hot lava tumbles
from volcano’s open snout.

Life as it was can be forgotten.
Ashes and lava cover ground.
Some stems of trees stand, but are rotten.
And for long time no plants are found.
