The rot begins in secret places,
outward appearances are fine
and hide all the potential traces
by layers of an extra shine.
But once succumbed to rotten traits
a person tends to follow suit,
associates likeminded mates
and forgets their once sound root.
Disguise might work to some extent
but when the rotten core has won
the healthy parts have to relent
and certain downfall has begun.
