You cannot really hide a hide
that everyone can see
plainly from every single side,
when high up it must be.
I don’t know if the trick does work:
to do as if it were
a dead tree – from no one would shirk –
put innocently there.
We can’t know what a deer does see
in such an abstract form.
The recognition of a tree
might be the wild deer norm.
