When disasters have happened at places
lookers-on are normally curious.
But drawn to the site to see trouble on faces
their empathy is only spurious.
They cannot resist to slow their motion
and stop to see what’s going on.
Like with journalists it seems devotion
to big sensations cries “come on”.
They do not really care who needs
more than public interest.
But the hand that helps and feeds
consolation would be best.
The motivation for this zest to look
might lie deep in people’s fear
that by a hair’s breadth fate now took
someone else, but it came near.
