Flowers on the side

As dishes go you can eat flowers
which sometimes even please.
You might resent applauding showers
when guests with shock then freeze.

The normal way that flowers grow
is to maintain their breed.
The smaller ones – as far we know –
are mostly just called weed.

Passing some flowers at the side
of canal, river, stream
where you have your Sunday ride
puts on this cake some cream.
