In the beginning reeds are green,
turning light yellow growing old.
They lose all spring and summer sheen
in the end when days are cold.
But brilliant colours in the spring
are not all the reeds provide.
The old and sturdy straws still bring
a density grown side by side.
Thus generations stand together
offering homes and a protection
against the enemies and weather:
a common aim close to perfection.
