On the surface mostly things seem polished,
and hope to cover what lies underneath.
Disfiguring bruises are abolished
to propagate perfect outer sheath.
Not so the wood whose core contains
its beauty in the forms that grew
to promote life for the tree’s gains
as for an artist to make sculptures, too.
He cuts the forms that with wood agree,
creates a figure from his conceptions,
which we can finally approach and see
and touch its surface which is no deception.
