As a child Christmas seemed far, far away,
a year was endless and made you wait.
Each day rolled slowly along with delay
as the wish list grew longer than fate.
An adult who has to work every day
discovers this tendency, too.
However, it’s more the laborious way
that sticks to the days like glue.
The older you get you are forced to find out
that time runs unusually fast.
Unless you’re in pains with a terrible gout
hurriedly future is past.
Your youth is experienced far, far away,
you remember but a few highlights.
And compared with earlier years you stay
the same person, not the one that fights.
